Computational Identification of PpsR and FnrL Regulatory Elements in Four Purple Bacteria Computational Identification of PpsR and FnrL Regulatory Elements

In purple bacteria, PpsR and FnrL regulators play an essential role in control of the level of expression and the composition of photosystem. In this study, the bioinformatics tools used to identify new candidate genes of PpsR and FnrL regulon in four sequenced purple bacteria (Jannaschia sp.CCS1, Rhodobacter sphaeroides 2.4.1, Rhodopseudomonas palustris CGA009, Rhodospirillum rubrum). The program PATSER was used to search binding sites in the four genomes using the weight matrix we identified. Besides genes already known to be directly under the control of PpsR and FnrL, 23 and 56 novel members of PpsR and FnrL regulon were discovered. These data may suggest PpsR and FnrL tend to be global transcriptional factors influencing a much larger variety of genes which are related to photosynthesis, transcriptional regulation, signal transduction and nutrition transport.
