Which Counseling Skills Are More Important for Peer Counselors from High Schools: Comparison of Training Effects
To explore which counseling skills are more important for peer counselors from high schools and provide theoretical principle for constructing scientific peer training programs, a pre-post test between-participants factorial design was adopted with 184 participants in a natural experiment. Results showed that after training, scores of two skills group were significantly higher than those of four skills group in Reflection of Counseling Cases; compared with control group, scores of two skills group and four skills group decreased significantly in Discrimination of Counseling Reflection Efficiency separately; scores of four skills group were significantly higher than those of two skills group in Moral-Ethical Self, Personal Self, and Family Self. It concludes that attending and empathy skills are more important for peer counselors development compared with other counseling skills.
