Study on the Treatment of Sewage by Shallow Ecosoil System
Soil treatment was proved to be an effective and lowcost treatment technique for decentralized effluents in the areas without perfect sewage systems. In this study, a shallow eco-soil treatment system (SES) was designed and operated to evaluate the feasibility and performances in treating sewage from a school campus for over a one-year monitoring period. The SES was built according to different material composing ratio. The raw sewage was prepared and fed into the shallow eco-soil treatment system. Based on the experiment the pollutants were removed from the sewage by the SES and the treatment effect of the sewage was studied. The result showed that the novel process could decrease chemical oxygen demand with the dichromate method by 87.1%, suspended solids by 80.9%, total phosphorus by 70%, and ammonia nitrogen by 65% respectively. Under the best compose of shallow eco-soil system; the outlet of the treatment system can reach of the first grade of the GB8978-2002.
