Phosphate Removal by CTMAB Modified Bentonite
Adsorption is an efficient treatment process for the phosphate removal. In this study, cetyl trimethylammonium bromide modified bentonite (CTMAB-Bent) were prepared, characterized, and its adsorption properties for phosphate were evaluated in batch experiments. The results showed that the ability of phosphate adsorption by CTMAB-Bent was far more than that of Na-bentonite and raw bentonite. The process of phosphate adsorption was rapid and reached equilibrium within 60 min. The Freundlich model and the Langmuir model were both described the adsorption isotherm data well. These results indicated that the surfactant modified bentonites were potential adsorbents for the phosphate removal from water.
