Environmental Monitoring of Heavy Metals in Barks and Leaves of Coconut Palm

In order to study the relationship of heavy metals between coconut palm (Cocos nucifera L.) and the environment, concentrations of Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn, Ti and V in bark and leaf samples of cocos in Haikou and Sanya cities were analyzed. The results showed that coco barks and leaves are subject to accumulate Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn. All the studied element contents in barks and leaves in Haikou are higher than those in Sanya except Cr and Ni in barks. Both in barks and leaves, the concentration of Pb was significantly higher in roadway sides. The concentrations of Co, Cr, Ni, Ti and V in the industrial area were almost higher than other areas. We also discussed the biological absorption coefficients (BAC) and elemental correlations between cocos and soils, which showed that the absorption of each element in soils by plants was limited, the absorption degree was inconsistent with the concentrations of each element in soils, which not only influenced by soil types, but also controlled by biological absorption ability.
