The Use of Metacognitive Learning Strategies by English Majors in Universities
Foreign/second language learning strategies play an important role in the process of foreign/second language learning. Researchers have been studying learning strategies, and have made some achievements. However, most of those studies are confined in specific cognitive learning strategies or regarding non-English majors as subjects. Thus it is of necessity to research into metacognitive learning strategies employed by English majors in universities of science and engineering. With the help of questionnaire and SPSS, this paper reveals the beliefs of English majors on English learning, the overall pattern of metacognitive learning strategies used by them, and the similarities and differences in metacognitive learning strategies between males and females. In addition, teaching administration implications of the research are put forward as well.
