Evaluation of Scattering in Collision Avoidance Radar Application
This work uses a high frequency electromagnetic numerical tool to evaluate the scattering characteristics of vehicles. The projected application is for use on the collision avoidance radar utilizing frequency modulated continuous wave. Experiment results show that a car is a relatively complicated scattering target, which can be regarded as a collection of several scattering sources. The distributions of scattered signals vary as the geo locations of the radio source and scattering targets change. Effects of critical parameters such as the longitudinal distance to the target, lateral offset of the target and the orientation of the target, are investigated. The findings can be used to develop detection and tracking algorithms for collision avoidance radars.
