Impact of Distributed Generation on Relay Protection and Its Improved Measures
By interconnecting the power system, Distributed Generation (DG) can improve the system reliability, moreover, some emergencies can be timely and effectively solved such as nature disaster etc. However, the increasing proportion of DG in power system will deeply affect the distribution network radial structure, the amperage, direction, and distribution of short—circuit current in the existing distribution network, thus the operation and control of the distribution network will be affected. To satisfy the requirements and resolve the existing problems of the relay protection of the distribution systems under high DG penetration level, a new protection scheme is introduced in this paper. The new protection scheme is based on longitudinal comparison principle. With the foundation of communication technology, the new scheme is a kind of substation area longitudinal protection with master-slave structure, for the purpose of protecting the whole distribution substation and all of its outgoing feeders that are under high DG penetration level.
