Research On Web GIS Based On GML And SVG For Distribution Power System Planning
Distribution power system planning is an outstanding difficult problem by enormous variables and constraints. Power facilities distribution and large scale spatial data are other important characteristics of the planning. Geographic information system (GIS) has been applied in distribution power system successfully, but early GIS based on C/S(Client/Server) structure dont support inter-operability and common users cant get the information they require. Web GIS(WebGIS) is easy to access and display geographical spatial data with bitmap or vector format that meeting users requirement via Internet/Intranet. Then Web GIS is the direction for development of GIS. This paper proposed a Web GIS system based on GML(Geography Markup Language) and SVG(Scalable Vector Graphics) which are subset of XML(eXtensible Markup Language).GML as a language not only can describe the geographical spatial data structure, but also can describe the architecture of WebGIS. But the data stored and encoded with GML cannot be supported by prevailing browsers, and then SVG which integrates with vector graphic, bitmap image and pure text can solve the display and operation problem in client by only a viewer plug-in. GML and SVG are subset of XML conform to Web attribute, then can transfer and share the geographical spatial data conveniently. WebGIS has been applied in distribution power system planning as a decision support system. It helps planners to decide when and where substations and transmission lines are constructed in planning period and planners also can take the grid topology analysis or make blackout simulation in some regions. It is also useful to locate the failure and resume power supply quickly. In this paper, a new architecture of WebGIS had been put forward, which including data, application and client tiers. The data tier adopt GML encoding, and GML programming, GIS server,XSLT processor, and web services server composed the application tier, the client tier base on SVG and JavaScript language realized interaction. A new power layer also hade been designed according to distribution power grid which based on GML and SVG., The user interface layer also had been proposed in the end.
