The Rhodium Catalyzed Carbene Cyclization-Cycloaddition Cascade (CCCC) Reaction of Vinylsulfonates
1.Introduction Medium-size rings and cyclic ethers are becoming increasingly recognized as common structural units in naturally occurring compounds, the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of carbonyl ylides with π bonds represent an attractive strategy to assemble them.1 Due to the electron-deficiency of the sulfonyl substituted olefin moiety, vinylsulfonates such as 1 are highly reactive substrates for the 1,3-dipolar cycloadditon cyclization reaction. Aiming at the development of novel sultone-based methodology,2 we herein report our detailed studies on the synthesis of tricyclic sultones such as 2 via intramolecular rhodium catalyzed CCCC reaction. 1,3(Scheme 1)
