Study on the Microencapsulating Process Parameters

1.Iroduction Since the 1990s, smart materials had become the hot research materials 1. In many of it, the self-repair materials which can simulate the biological materials were particular importance. Due to technical limitations, many damages shorten the life of the materials such as the micro-crack of the substrate areas may not be detected 2. In response to this question, scientists put forward the concept of self-diagnosis and self-repair to the injury materials 3-5. Microcapsule is one of them, and has already widely used 6-7 In this research, with epoxy matrix and the dilution of the matrix as core materials, St/DVB as capsule shell material, a PS coated epoxy resin self-mending microcapsule was prepared by the means of in-situ polymerization. The effects of different content of emulsifier on the emulsification of the core materials and shell material, as well as the effects of reaction temperature and time and the loading method of initiator on the synthesis process of the microcapsule were studied. The results showed PS coated epoxy resin microcapsule was successfully synthesized, and the optimum process condition were that 1% Arabic gum and 3% DBS was used as emulsifier, BPO was used to initiate the reaction, then KPS was loaded 5h after the initiation, the reaction temperature was 70~80℃, and the reaction time was 8h.
