Preparation of Polyaniline-Coated Mesoporous Carbon and Its Enhanced Electrochemical Properties
1.Introduction Mesoporous carbons (MCs) with large surface area and large pore size have attracted a good deal of interests for its applications in electrochemical capacitors1,2. Currently, a soft-template method3-5based on organic-organic self-assembly is promising to prepare MC directly, which could overcome those disadvantages brought by hard-template method, such as a long period of production, the high cost of producing hard template, and the second pollution generated in the removal of hard template by HF or NaOH solution. On the other hand, a great attention has been focused on conducting polymer-based electrochemical capacitorst6-7. The drawbacks of conducting polymer lie in low surface area and constrained power-output properties. Herein, we try to coat a thin layer of PANI on the mesopore surface of MC, which shall combine both merits of the large surface of MC and high intrinsic capacitance of PANI, hopefully offering superior capacitive performances. In this paper, MC prepared by soft-template is used for the first time to synthesize PANI/MC composite as electrode for electrochemical application.
