Spectroscopic and Lasing Characterization of a Luminescent Phenylene/bipyridine Polymer
1.Introduction The synthesis of laser active organic materials, monomeric molecules, oligomers and polymers, their physical characterisation, and application in wave-guiding thin-film lasers is an active field of research. Laser action was achieved for various luminescent polymers (see 1 and references therein). Here a rigid backbone conjugated phenylene/bipyridine polymer, poly2,2-bipyridine-5,5-diyl-(2,5--dihexyl1,4-phenylene) (abbreviated PPBpy)2, is characterized by spectroscopic methods and investigated for neat thin-film and organic-solution laser action3.
