Utilization of Potato Leaves for the Preparation of Superabsorbent under Microwave Irradiation
1.Introduction Superabsorbents are a cross-linked network of hydrophilic polymers that can absorb and retain aqueous fluids up to thousands of times their own weight, and the absorbed water is hardly removable even under some pressure1. For its excellent properties, superabsorbents have raised considerable interest and are widely used in many fields. In recent years, with the increased environmental pollution, the research on superabsorbent not only focused on improving salt resistance, but also on resolving environmental pollution and reducing production costs. Potato is one of the most important crops in many countries, including China. On the one hand, as potatoes are rich in nutrition and can be made into varied foods, they have been fully utilized. On the other hand, the massive planting and harvesting of potatoes inevitably lead to large number of stems and leaves. However, people are always ignored this phenomenon, most of stems and leaves are discarded as waste, which has led to a waste of resources and environmental pollution. In a time when people strongly advocate the effective use of limited natural resources, provide a new method to convert waste resources into treasures is of great practical significance. However, so far, no work has been reported on using the raw PL to prepare superabsorbent. In view of its-major component is cellulose, PL can be used for preparing high-absorbent material.
