Preparation and Characterization of Monocomponent Polyurethane Adhesives and Their Cross-linking Modification
1.Introduction Polyurethanes (PUs) are unique polymeric materials with a wide range of physical and chemical properties with applications as coatings, adhesives, fiber, foams, and thermoplastic elastomers incorporated with renewable raw material. In recent years, the wide application of polyurethanes in different fields has brought about higher requirements of their properties, and the demand for high-performance and temperature resistant structural adhesives is on the increase. In recent years, a lot of work has been done on solvent-based polyurethane adhesives to improve their performance. However, the role of crosslinking, used elsewhere in many industrial coatings and adhesive applications has not been investigated widely in solvent-based polyurethane adhesives. To the best of our knowledge, there are very few studies dealing with tri-functional polyester polyol (P210) as the crosslinking agent of PU adhesives. Hence this effort is to use P210 polyol in PU adhesives preparation. It is a highly cross-linked polymeric structure and it is expected to act as a very good adhesive for rubber-to-rubber bonding.
