Adsorption of Abio-amino Acids by A Short-range Order Nano Material
1.Introduction Organic molecules we use such as L-amino acids and D-sugars are mainly homo-chiral. In the study on the origins of life, it is important to clarify reasons why homo-chiral organic molecules have been selected. There are various hypotheses on the homo-chirality. Recently, it has been attracted that some minerals have chiral faces 1. That means that a crystal face shows a chiral structure. It has been known that quartz has right and left-handed variants and kaolinite also has mirror image isomers. Furthermore, calcite, feldspar, pyroxene, etc. Are recently known as the minerals which have chiral faces. The chiral face might discriminate between D-and L-enantimers and make the asymmetric synthesis. Besides, it has also been said that nonperiodic features such as structural defects, etch pits, twin boundaries etc. Have chiral structures. Allophane, which is a short-range order nano material, is a hydrated aluminum silicate. It occurs in the clay fraction of soils derived from volcanic ash.
