Preparation and Properties of Waterborne Polyurethane/Cu(Ⅱ)-loaded Hydrozyapatite Nanocomposites
1.Introduction Waterborne polyurethane (WBPU) is widely used in the coatings and adhesives.1,2 The mechanical properties, thermal stability and water resistance of the WBPU, however, are still lower than those of the organic solvent-borne PU and need to be improved/3 Moreover, WBPU can be degraded by many types of fungi4 and bacteria5, mainly due to the hydrolysis of the -NHCOO groups. One of the methods to overcome these problems is to develop polymer materials with biocidal activities by incorporating with antibacterial agent.6,7 In the present study, hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (Hap NPs) were chosen as a reinforcing nanofiller and an antimicrobiai carrier. Meanwhile, copper(Ⅱ) was chosen as loading-cation to prepare CuHAp antimicrobial agent. We have prepared a novel composite of WBPU/CuHAp with environmentally friendly, good mechanical properties, and antibacterial activity in situ polymerization. The physical and antibacterial properties of composites were investigated.
