Similar histone acetylation pattern of neighboring genes in yeast
Neighboring genes were found to have a similar expression pattern in eukaryotic genome. But the reason is not clear yet. We find that immediate neighboring genes in yeast show a strong positive correlation in histone acetylation pattern. The co-modification (similar acetylation pattern) extends to neighboring pairs within 12 genes or 11 kbp on chromosomes. These results suggest that chromatin acetylation patterns may play a role in coexpression (similar expression pattern) of neighboring genes.
