A new nonlinear approach to analyze heart rate variability using dot map based on first order difference sequence

In this work we present a new approach of dot map to analyze heart rate variability (HRV),using the sequence of RR intervals by first order difference, which is based on the mapping approach of Poincare Plots. We analyze the characteristic of the plot to obtain its indexes to express HRV, and to detect kinds of premature beats from its ectopic plots area. As the natural RR interval of heart beats vary slowly and there is a complete compensation of RR interval after the premature beat, the plots had especial characteristic of mapping and also had some peculiar isolated areas of mapping by academic logic. This approach of mapping plots was proved to be correct by test using MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database. It indicates that our new approach of plots have a good advantage to distinguish premature beats of isolated, bigeminy, trigeminy from normal beats, especially from ECG data contained different kinds of premature beats. The result suggested that our approach was much better than the analysis of Poincare Plots, so it could be a good complement to HRV non-liner analysis.
