A Simulation Study of Controlling Epileptic Seizures on Simulink
Based on a nonlinear brainstem-thalamus-cerebral cortex dynamic model, a control signal module is added to the cerebral cortex neuclei. Normal, abnormal and controlled state of brainstem function can be successfully simulated with the model on Simulink platform of Matlab. A periodic signal (square pulse) or nonperiodic signal (gauss noise) is imposed on the model. Three quantitative indexes (amplitude, correlation dimension and Kc complexity) are used to analyze the experiment results. The results indicate that the abnormal state of the brainstem dysfunction could be controlled to the normal state by adding control signal. The parameters setting of control signal, however, are very important for successful control.
