Finite Element Musculoskeletal Modeling of Mechanical Virtual Human of China

Following the Chinese Visible Human (CVH) project which afforded datasets of a complete normal adult male and a complete normal adult female from Asian population, Mechanical Virtual Human of China (MVHC) project supported by National Natural Science Foundation was initiated on january 2006. One of MVHC projects purposes is to construct a three-dimensional (3D) musculoskeletal system model and a 3D skeletal system finite element (FE) model of a whole male, which are absolutely obedience to the true anatomical structure in geometry with adopting CVH male dataset. This paper gives how 3D musculoskeletal system model and 3D skeletal system FE model of a whole male were constructed, and displays these models at the same time. 3D musculoskeletal system model and 3D skeletal system FE model of a whole human could be as the foundation of kinematics, dynamics and stress/strain analysis under lots of conditions, and will find wide applications in such areas as medical engineering, medical instrument design, physical and art education, sport, ergonomics and traffic accident analysis etc.
