Effect of pre-ozidation with potassium permanganate composites on polluted water of the Pearl River in China
The effectiveness of enhanced pollutants removal of preoxidation process with potassium permanganate composites (PPC) was studied in laboratory scale and full-scale, with polluted raw water of the navigation channel of the Pearl River and the West River respectively. The results from the jar tests demonstrate that PPC has an enhanced effect on coagulation, filtration and organic matters removal for the polluted raw water of the navigation channel of Pearl River, the turbidities of settled water and filtered water are clearly reduced and the removal efficiency of UV254 and CODMn index are improved. The results from the full-scale study indicate that PPC has a positive effect on the turbidity and organic matters removal for the polluted raw water of the West River and it can also extend the filtration periods. The removal efficiencies of turbidity and organic matters are different when pre-oxidation process with PPC treated polluted raw water of the navigation channel of the Pearl River and the West River respectively, because of the special operating conditions of plant and different raw water qualities. GC /MS analysis results show that PPC could remove micro-organic pollutants from polluted water effectively, and improve the chemical safety of drinking water remarkably.
