Effects of ferrous ions on nitrobenzene reduction in zero-valent iron system
The reduction of nitrobenzene (ArNO2) was investigated in a zero-valent iron(ZVI) system (Fe0) with the addition of ferrous ions (Fe2+) using batch tests. The results indicated that the reductive product of nitrobenzene was not changed with the addition of Fe2+, and ArNO2 was reduced to aniline by Fe0.The reductive reaction rate of ArNO2 was enhanced with the addition of Fe2+. The lepidocrocite with a flake-like structure formed the outer layer of corrosion coating. The Fe2+ was adsorbed on the surface of iron powder. The addition of Fe2+ into ZVI system could favor the reduction of ArNO2 in the in situ remediation of groundwater.
