Effect of different catalysts in hybrid gas-liquid discharge for the removal of organic pollutant
Hybrid gas-liquid discharge technology is a promising water treatment technology. The synergic effect of activated alumina and discharge electric field could accelerate the removal of organic pollutants. Effect of loaded catalysts on the organic pollutant removal rate in hybrid gas-liquid discharge was investigated by loading FeOOH and nanosize TiO2 on the surface of activated alumina particles. The results revealed that activated alumina particles loaded by nanosized TiO2 in hybrid gas-liquid discharge electric field exhibited preferable catalytic capability and received higher phenol removal rate. This was because that the ultraviolet radiation produced in discharge course catalyzed TiO2 to form cavity, then ·OH was generated through the reaction with H2O or OH-adsorbed on the surface. The amount of ·OH was increased, which enhanced the phenol removal rate.
