Degradation of Dye Wastewater Using a Rotating TiO2/Ti Disc Photoanode

To reduce the energy loss of irradiation light caused by the absorption of target compounds themselves in photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) process, a rotating TiO2/Ti disc electrode was developed for the first time to degrade Sunset Yellow and textile effluent. Compared with a conventional photoelectrocatalytic (CPEC) reactor, in which photoanode was irradiated by light transmitting through a certain thickness of solution, the rotating PEC (RPEC) reactor could enhance the PEC degradation efficiency because light can irradiate the half disc in air directly instead of through dye solution. After 4.5h RPEC oxidation, the color and TOC removal efficiency for Sunset Yellow reached 96% and 68%, respectively. For the textile effluent, the corresponding value was 80% and 31% after 5h RPEC oxidation.
