Photo-Fenton degradation and mineralization of polyacrylamide by using Fe2O3/SiO2 catalyst
Degradation and mineralization of polyacrylamide (PAM) in aqueous solution was studied by using Fe2O3/SiO2 as a heterogeneous catalyst in the presence of H2O2 and UV light. Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Xray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were used to characterize the catalyst. It was observed that the photo-Fenton degradation of 100mg/L PAM undergone a faster kinetics than the mineralization, 80% PAM was removed in 120min and 70% total organic carbons of PAM was eliminated after 180min in the presence of 1.0g/L Fe2O3/SiO2 catalyst, 200mg/L H2O2 and 8W UV light. In addition, it was also found that H2O2 concentration, UV light intensity, Fe2O3/SiO2 catalyst loading and the initial PAM concentration were the four main factors that could significantly influence the degradation of PAM.
