Possible ezperiments with an annihilation gamma ray laser

Recently we have begun to do experiments with bunches of several times 107 positrons produced using a Penning-Malmberg-Surko trap 1 and buncher 2. With this apparatus we have obtained experimental evidence for the production of molecular positronium (Ps2) 3,4,5. A new positron source based on the 12C(d,n)13N reaction 6 is being installed in our laboratory at UCR and is expected to assist in obtaining a large improvement in the intensity of our positron pulses, such that we might be able to achieve conditions for observing the stimulated emission of annihilation gamma rays from a positronium Bose Einstein Condensate 7. Here we point out some possible experimental arrangements and some investigations that might be done with an annihilation gamma ray laser.
