Investigation on the Radiation Effect of Plolyurethane Irradiated by Neutrons in the Reactor
Polyurthane has wide uses due to to its excellent properties, such as anti-abrasion, oil proof, resistance to tearing and chemical attack, good adhesives, high elastane and damping capacity. There are some studies on the effect of high-energy radiation on polyurethane1~3, whereas there is no reference upon the polyurethane material irradiated by neutrons from reactors. In this article, the radiation effect of neutrons on polyether-urethane is studied. The gas products from irradiated samples were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively by gas chromatography, the dynamic mechanical property and compression property are analyzed. Positron annihilation lifetime of irradiated samples is also measured at room temperature in vacuum.
