The Free Positron Lifetime in Amorphous Polymer at low temperature

Most of the PALS studies on amorphous polymers focus on the ortho-positronium component. This third component is of a great interest in material science compared to the others since it allows to estimate the free volume hole size using the well known Tao & Eldrup equation. Consequently free positron lifetime (τ2) and its relative intensity (I2) are hardly reported in the literature. The work focuses on the positron lifetime. PALS spectra of different amorphous polymers were recorded at 20 K for more than one week. The lifetime spectra are analyzed in three discrete components using LT9. An increase of the free positron annihilation lifetime with time is observed which follows the trend of I3.
