Application of the lifetime positron spectroscopy for photodynamic therapy

We discuss the perspectives of life-time method of positron spectroscopy applying to therapeutic antimicrobial photodynamic inactivation (PDI). The mechanisms of photodestructive influence onto bacterial cells are based on laser exposure 1 of photosensensitizer, binding in significant amounts to cell wall or cytoplasmic membrane, and generation of reactive oxygen species to induce an irreversible oxidative damage of the cellular critical targets. Some notions to develop positron annihilation spectroscopy (PAS) as a new noninvasive technique for the detection of molecular damage by UV radiation issued in 2 and references therein.
