Far-field Diffraction Characteristics of a Short Pulse from a Slit with Gaussian form of Transmittance
The spectrum changes of a Gaussian pulse in the far-field is studied with Fresnel diffraction integral when it is incident on a slit with Gaussian form transmittance. It is found that the side-lobes of the spectral intensity which exist in normal slit with unit transmittance will be eliminated under such a condition. This effect could be useful for optical engineering or optical communications.
