Evaluation of Leakage Losses in Optical Bragg Waveguides

Using a ray-optics model, we analyze with numerical examples the transmission characteristics of a practical optical Bragg waveguide that contains truncated Bragg reflectors. In particular, by treating the truncated Bragg reflector as a perturbation of an infinite periodic structure, we derive an explicit expression for the calculation of the leakage losses of the waveguide.
