Towards-1 Effective Indez with Metallo-dieffectric Multilayer

We theoretically study the optimization towards -1 effective index with onedimensional metallo-dieffectric photonic crystal 1. Assuming a Drude model for the metal (εm=1-ω2p/ω) and a fixed positive permittivity for the dieffectric (εd=4.25), we can choose structural parameters of photonic crystals properly in order to obtain the refractive effective index very close to-1 for all the incident angles on a sphere (see the following figure). With the adequate truncation, we show that the corresponding permittivity and permeability are continuous functions of the parallel component of the waveffector. Thus, the effective permittivity and permeability are well defined. In a second step, we study the possibility to obtain a zero reflection on the considered structure by adding layer with suitable parameters.
