A Fully Integrated CMOS 3.5GHz WiMAX Voltage Controlled Oscillator
In this paper, we proposed a new structure of WiMAX Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) that not only achieves good phase noise and the minimum phase error but also excellent wide tuning range about 22%. The WiMAX VCO consists of the cross couple transistors, and the modified back-gate couple transistors. The proposed WiMAX VCO is designed and simulated based on a standard 0.18 1m RF CMOS process.Figure 1 shows the simplified configuration of the WiMAX VCO. In the coupling transistors structure adopted is a series connection (S-QVCO). That exhibits improvement in terms of phase robustness and phase noise 1. The trade off between phase accuracy and low phase noise which has a mirror impact on the S-QVCO 1, 2. On another way to lock quadrature phases, we used pMOS back-gate coupling transistor, that not only to obtain the better tuning range and phase noise but also reduce the head voltage 3. The simulated results shown in Table 1.It is performed using Agilent ADS simulator. The phase noise and tuning range can be change by adjusting the values of M3A, M4A and M3B, M4B. The phase error less than 0.7°, and the tuning range is 22% within QVCO operates from 3.1~3.9 GHz, and the phase noise levels are less than-118.9 dBc/Hz at 1MHz for all operating band.
