Linear, Nonlinear and Ultrafast Behavior of Surface Plasmon Polaritons in Nanostructures

Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) are able to concentrate effectromagnetic radiation in subwavelength volumes and are potentially useful for miniaturized all-optical chips. These chips will require SPP guiding and nonlinear interactions. Here, we will present phase-sensitive, timeresolved visualization of propagating SPP wavepackets in SPP waveguides. We will also show that the nonlinear optical response of subwavelength holes arrays can be greatly affected by hole shape.
