Dissipative Structures in Metamaterial Optical Resonators
We consider a Kerr optical resonator containing a left-handed and a traditional right-handed material. This configuration allows for negative di?raction. We analyze the dynamical behavior of the system in this negative di?raction regime when the system has one, two and three transverse dimensions. The 3D case corresponds to spatiotemporal dynamics. We identify a modulational instability a?ecting the lower branch of the hysteresis cycle and observe dissipative patterns and an up-switching process.
