Calculating Efficient Noise Resistance of RF Coils for Low Field MRI Systems

An analytical method to calculate efficient noise resistance of RF coils in low field MRI systems is presented. Coil self-resistance and sample resistance are evaluated respectively. Using this method, efficient noise at 12.72MHz of solenoid coil and square-shaped surface coil are calculated. The results show that the coil self-resistance and sample resistance of surface coils are comparable. Thus, both parts of efficient resistance should be calculated when optimizing signal-to-noise ratio to design geometries of RF coils.
