Resonant Scattering by a Multilayered Grating
We investigate resonance absorption of incident light energy in a multilayered grating, which is a stack of metal and dielectric films periodically corrugated in one direction. The absorption is associated with two kinds of resonant scattering in a multilayered structure: excitation of coupled surface plasmons on a thin metal film and resonance of electromagnetic fields in a dielectric film (or slab) embedded in a thin metal film. Results of numerical computation confirm the presence of the resonant scattering and show interesting behaviors in the absorption phenomenon.
