Use of Fibre Reinforced Polymer Composites for Repair, Rehabilitation and Retrofitting of R.C. Structural Members-Indian Perspectives

Since 1970s research and development work on concrete polymer composites have been carried out in many research centres, academic institutions and private organizations in India. Considerable work on concrete polymer composites has also been carried out by Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) laboratories in India, especially, at the Structural Engineering Research Centre (SERC), Chennai, Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), New Delhi and laboratories at Bhopal, Jorhat and Thiruvanthapuram in India. This paper briefly gives the use of fibre reinforced polymer composites for repair, rehabilitation and retrofitting of reinforced concrete structural elements. Laboratories in CSIR, Indian Institutes of Technologies (IITs), Anna University, Annamalai University, etc., have carried out extensive studies on fibre reinforced polymer composites and their effective utilization for repair, retrofitting and rehabilitation of R.C structural members.
