Application of Polymer Modified Spray Mortar for Feature Walls of Vivo City Project Singapore
As part of the Harbour Front Development, VivoCity is set to be an iconic landmark in Singapore. Featuring integrated retail-cum-leisure facilities, it will be a new generation waterfront lifestyle destination for both locals and tourists. Incorporating interesting open spaces for waterfront alfresco dining and the staging of world-class events, VivoCity will boast a dynamic retail mix of unique retail and lifestyle concepts. VivoCity will also be the single largest retail and entertainment complex in Singapore.The Gigantic-waved Feature Wall projects along the north and east elevation of VivoCity, attracts the attention of all travelling along Telok Blangah Road and Gateway Avenue. The surfing concept is not only adopted on the outside but also employed throughout in the 2 atriums, mall ceiling and walls.A new shotcrete system comprised of a polymer modified shotcrete mortar layer and a high elastomeric membrane layer to minimise the dry shrinkage cracking was developed for this special project. A testing program including laboratory and site mock-up wall was described in this paper for evaluation of the properties of the polymer modified shotcrete system and the effect of temperature, vibration and wind was also monitored for the mock-up wall.The procedure of site quality control and monitoring are also discussed. 2 years after completion of the project,the feature wall is still in good condition and no single crack was found.
