Pore Structure of Hardened Cement Paste Modified with Hydrozyethyl Methyl Cellulose
The effects of hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose (HEMC) on the pore structure of cement paste were studied through using mercury intrusion porosimeter (MIP) and environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) techniques. The results show that HEMC remarkably affects the pore structure of cement paste. HEMC definitely increases the total pore volume, porosity and the average pore radius, but decreases the total pore area. HEMC obviously increases the content of large capillary pores of cement paste, and pores entrained by HEMC are mainly close pores. With the increase of its addition, the effect of HEMC on the pore structure of cement paste enhances. HEMC also makes many calcium hydroxide crystals formed in the pores of cement paste.
