Investigation on Latez Modified Concretes Durability Against Chloride Ion Attack

The application of polymeric latexes in concrete to develop flexural and tensile properties is an ancient subject. Also they usually decrease water absorption and permeability of concretes. In this study, some kind of latexes including acrylic, acrylate copolymer, polyvinyl acetate and styrene butadiene rubber were investigated. They were used in concretes at 5, 10 and 15 weight percent of cement at the water/cement ratio of 0.35. The compressive strength, flexural/tensile strength, surface absorption, depth of water penetration, RCPT, profile of Chloride ion and pulloff adhesion and etc. were determined. It was found that acrylic and acrylate copolymer latexes performed better in concrete due to their good mechanical and chemical effects. Also, it was concluded that concretes with 5% latex were suitable for thick layer concreting and concretes with 15% latex were better for repair materails in chloride ion aggressive environments.
