Wide Dynamic Range RF VGA for Digital Video Broadcasting Satellite Receiver Tuner

We present a design of a wide dynamic range and a broadband radio frequency variable gain amplifier (RF VGA) for digital video broadcasting satellite (DVB-S2) receiver tuner integrated circuit which is fabricated using the 0.18 μm complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) process. Designed RF VGA circuit used the metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) channel resistance with two attenuators to obtain a wide dynamic range characteristic. RF VGA achieved a gain dynamic range of 19.5 dB, third order input intercept point (IIP3) of -6.02 dBm and a noise figure of 10.45 dB at high gain mode from the frequency range of 950 MHz - 2150 MHz. The RF VGA circuit consumed a total current of 6 mA with the supply voltage of 1.8 V.
