Propagation of the Electromagnetic Pulse through Inhomogeneous Plasma Medium
The effect of electron density distribution on the waveform of an electromagnetic pulse through an inhomogeneous plasma region is analyzed. Assuming the electron density is assumed to vary in the direction normal to the plasma interface, WKB method is used to compute the transfer function of the plasma region in frequency domain and the fast Fourier transform algorithm is applied to obtain the distortion of the transmission signal waveforms in time domain. At last, the plane wave carrying a Gaussian pulse envelope signal is considered as the incident pulse, the characteristics of the transmission wave was investigated and the comparison was analyzed for three different plasma distributions.
