Chemistry of Quenching: Vegetable Oil Based Quenchants-A Closer Look

There is an ongoing interest in developing quenching oils from renewable resources as an alternative to traditional petroleum oil-derived compositions. One renewable resource that continues to be of great potential interest are vegetable oils. Although the use of vegetable oils as quenchants is not new, the use of this renewable resource continues to be relatively poorly understood with respect to structure-property performance. An overview of the effect of different compositional variables on quenching performance is provided here.
