Development in Search for Super-Hard Coatings: A Critical Review
Super-hard coatings hold better resistance against wear, oxidation and corrosion, and therefore have been expected to possess a great potential in improving surface behavior of machining tools used in dry condition. In this paper, the development in searching for various super-hard coatings in the present group are reviewed with their synthesis technique, microstructure characterization and properties evaluation, and the most promising coatings for dry and high-speed cutting tools are suggested.
