Influence Analysis of Microstructure Morphology on Properties of X80 Pipeline Steel

By comparing three steels with approximated components, the effect of microstructure morphology on mechanical properties of API 5L-X80 pipeline steel was investigated by metallurgical microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and EBSD system. It was showed that the final microstructure is partially influenced by micro-alloys Nb, V, Ti. With the contents of acicular ferrite(AF), polygonal ferrite(PF) decrease, granular bainite(GB) increases, which with a larger size of the ferrite matrix and substructure, the effective grain size increases, the ratio of large-angle grain boundaries decreases. The percentage of M/A islands is over 5%, the shear area of DWTT(drop weight tear testing) is lower about 60% at -21℃, While the percentage decreased to about 2%, DWTT shear area increases to above 80%.When the content of residual austenite increases, the ductility of the experimental steel is enhanced. As GB increasing in microstructure, Yield Ratio of the experimental steel is lower.
