Diffusion Phenomenon during Surface Mechanical Attrition Treatment and its Effect on Magnetic Property in Nanocrystalline Fe-30wt.%Ni Alloy
A nanocrystalline surface layer is produced in Fe-30wt.% Ni alloy by surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT) and strain-induced nanocrystalline martensite is obtained in the surface layer. The characterization of microstructure and composition indicates that alloying elements of Fe, Cr diffuse from steel balls into the surface layer during SMAT. The diffusion phenomenon leads to the composition deviation in surface layer from its original one, which results in the different magnetic property of Fe-30wt.%Ni alloy, such as saturation magnetization (Ms) and Curie temperature (Tc).
