Research on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of HTP X80 Pipeline Steel

The microstructure and mechanical properties of HTP pipeline steel X80 were tested which was produced in industry through controlled rolling and cooling. The results show that the yield strength of pipeline steel X80 had reached above 600MPa , and the ratio of tensile strength to yield strength was 0.87, and ductile-brittle transition temperature was lower than - 60℃, and the good strength and toughness were obtained. Low content of P, S, high content of Mn and fine microstructure had good effect on reducing the ductile-brittle transition temperature. Two different precipitations were observed in pipeline steel X80, and the large ones were mainly Nb, Ti (CN) with size rang 50nm to 0.2 μm, and the small ones were mainly NbC with size lower than 30nm. Remarkable strengthening of the tested steel is due to the grain refinement and these nano-precipitations.
