Ezperimental Analysis of Ostwald Ripening and Grain Growth in Ti-bearing Precipitation Hardened Steel
Precipitation coarsening, grain growth and the relationship between precipitation size and ferrite grain size during heating at 970K were investigated in low carbon Ti-bearing precipitation hardened hot rolled steel. Precipitation coarsening obeyed to a growth law of r4∝t which implies that the controlling step of the coarsening process is grain boundary diffusion of Ti. Critical grain size calculated from Zeners equation is smaller than actual grain size in hot rolled steel and grain growth is controlled by the precipitation coarsening after holding time of 260ks.
